Final Travel Blog

To sum up all of my other blog posts. This post I would just like to look at some of the topic I have talked about this year. I covered a wide variety of topics starting with my personal local travels. Some of my international trips.

I looked up a lot of information that I did  not know prior to this class, Such as some of the perks of certain airlines. Tips to have  a successful and safe spring break and even fun facts about different places that I never knew of

Making this travel blog was a great experience and I hope reading them taught others different things like it taught me.

Trraveling from Plymouth without a car

Last weekend I had to travel home from Plymouth without a car so i used the Concord Coach line bus. It is a cheap an accessible line of transportation. For $25 i can go from Plymouth to Boston in 2 hours with just 2 stops in Tilton and Concord. Once in Boston i can get a ride home from either my parents or Uber. Travelling sometimes you have to maneuver around using public transportation. It sometimes is not as convenient as having my own vehicle but traveling sometimes you have to manage using public transportation

Past Travel History- Punta Cana

Two years ago my family an I went on a family vacation to Punta Cana. Punta Cana is in the Dominican Republic. We were all very excited to visit because none of us have been to the Dominican Republic before. After the plane ride we took a shuttle to our hotel. We were very fortunate to stay at the Hard Rock Resort and Casino in Punta Cana. I was so shocked at how beautiful and big the resort was.

I felt very welcomed at the resort. When my family and I first arrived we were served drinks right off the shuttle. All of the employees at the resort were so friendly and made our experience in the Dominican even better. We stayed at the resort the majority of the trip because it had everything we needed. One day we left the resort to go on an excursion. We went on ATV’s at a place 30 minutes from the resort. While on the drive I was able to see how poor the Dominican is. It was crazy how just outside the beautiful resort we were staying at was another life so different than mine. You could see how poor and underdeveloped it was.

While on the ATV’s little kids would run up to us and try to sell us flowers for money. It was so heartbreaking to see how little they were and they were trying to make money to help support their families. We all gave them all the cash we had on us because it was so sad. I wish I could have gave them everything. My family trip to Punta Cana really opened my eyes to up to whats going on in the world and how different life is for so many people. It made me want to make a change in the world. I want to be able to give back one day. I am very fortunate to have been able to visit the Dominican Republic and stay at such a beautiful resort, but I am even more fortunate for the lesson it taught me. I hope one day I will be able to give back more to the less fortunate people around the world.

Unusual Important Global Travel Facts

This week I have been doing a bunch of research on global travel facts that are not popular in knowledge but are really cool. If for some reason you travel to one of these countries I recommend looking for some of these landmarks and areas. .An unusual fact that caught my eye is that it is offensive to salt your food in Egypt. Something I definitely did not know until this research was conducted.

If you are ever to visit Iceland there is an area where two tectonic plates touch and reach the surface. Some people even snorkel between the two plates. Another unusual thing is in a small town in Italy there is a wine fountain for free.  This fountain is open to travelers and free wine attracts a lot off visitors.

Lastly a stat that blew my mind was 60% of the worlds lakes are in one country. In Canada there is more then half of the worlds lakes in the one country!

Travel Locations

This week I am going to talk about the  most popular travel destination in the US. Although it is not international it is still a popular destination for tourists internationally. New York City is not just a popular place for Americans can go to but it also attracts tourists. Some of the popular attractions are Time Square, The Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building,

Time Square is the center of technology and stores where there is a sign on every building. An extremely commercialized area. The New years eve ball drops in times square which attracts a crowd every year.  The Statue of liberty is an american Icon. The copper statue is one of the first things immigrants saw coming to the U.S located on an island right in the harbor. The Empire State Building  is an iconic 102 story sky scraper.

New York City has a lot of attractions known world wide in one area and that is why it is such an easy tourist destination with so much to do.

Flight Facts

Currently fighting for inspiration to keep the theme of a travel blog relevant. For this weeks blog I am going to talk about one of the most important things when it comes to planning and that is if it is a far destination how one plans on getting there. There is multiple airline companies one can choose from but when planning it is always a good idea to compare prices.

According to most comparisons jet blue and american airlines are pretty similar. As two of the bigger vendors of flights for americans they are clearly doing something right. The multiple blogs I read and also trip advisor say that jet blues wait time as not nearly as bad as american airlines. Both air lines offer memberships for flight miles that add up and will assist if you are a frequent flier.

Jet Blue has “True Blue” which is there is no money needed just to sign up and is accessible for frequent and non frequent fliers. It keeps track of miles and you can get money off future flights with more travel money. This is a deal I did not know about until writing this blog.

American Airlines also has reward plans called the AAdvantage card where it is a credit card that earns point for travel. Unlike true blue there is costs for the card but it also has its advantages. Their is  multiple different cards you can sign up for.

The point of this weeks blog is too look into a lot more then just a flight ticket because signing up for a free program can benefit in the long run

Mont Tremblant

Over spring break although many people decided to go south to warm weather I went on a ski trip to the north. Myself and some hometown friends decided to go ski Mont Tremblant. Tremblant is not just a giant ski mountain it is also a large downtown at the base of the mountain and a casino. The mountain itself is the largest mountain any of us have ever skied. One tricky thing about going to tremblant is that it is in Quebec. That means the speaking language is french. They are also very serious about parking laws. Within 2 hours of being at the mountain we some how managed to get towed. So a tip is make sure you park at a safe spot. Luckily our Airbnb owner helped us out with the fine but it definitely was a step back.

As far as a trip in the sense of traveling, 7 hour car ride was pretty tough but expenses was low. For a weekend of skiing a very large mountain and having a place too stay for 3 nights and the costs of food and drinks I did not spend more then 300$.  The most challenging part is the ride. Surprisingly we had no trouble at either border too during  our travels.

Preparing for Spring Break Trip

As the first half of this semester ends we go into spring break. This week is a very popular week for travel for students. So for this week I decided to write about helpful tips for college students when traveling on spring break.

Locals in spring break areas love this time of year because it is an easy time to make money. One tip is to avoid first floor hotel rooms. That is an easy target for thieves. Intoxicated college kids with money are thieves favorite because historically they are not the brightest  and would be easy to steal from.

Another tip is avoid drinking in hot tubs. All though it looks cool the effects of drinking are increased when in a hot tub.

Lastly be smart in the ocean. Drinking tends to make one feel “invincible” but studies show the ocean will never lose against a drunk college kid.

Road trip to Chipotle

Not one of my most exciting trips but to keep the theme of adventures and traveling. I took a a road trip to Chipotle because I was really in the mood for a burrito bowl. Plymouth has burrito me on campus but it is just not the same thing to me personally. Back home I live right next to one so the closest one being in Concord is a big difference to me. It was only a 40 minute drive and since it was a rather nice day it was overall a great trip to make.

Traveling tips

This week I did not leave Plymouth States campus so to fight for inspiration on this traveling blog I decided to put in some tips that I have collected from one of my experiences studying abroad. I am not a weathered traveler but I did make a lot of mistakes and my tips are my corrections. A year ago I traveled by myself to Germany it was a great trip but traveling to a different country will definitely have its experiences if not prepared.

One tip is learn some simple words. Although I went to visit my friend who was able to translate for me, when I was in the airport I had no idea what any signs meant. Personally I already think airports are difficult to navigate. So that was very difficult not knowing what anything meant. I thought I could just google translate. But with no service that is a difficult task.

Another lesson I learned is Europeans dress a lot nicer then Americans. I felt very out of place wearing something like basketball shorts. I correction I would say is that I probably should of packed a lot more business casual.
